Everything About Dota 2 Attributes

In Dota 2, attributes are like the stats of a hero. These attributes can be increased through leveling up, purchasing items that provide stats, and also with the help of talent trees and neutral items that increase your stats.
Strength, agility, and intelligence are the three Dota 2 attributes. Every Dota 2 hero has these three attributes and each of these attributes serves a different purpose.

Before we learn what each attribute does in Dota 2, we need to learn about an important mechanic called the primary attribute.
What is a Primary Attribute in Dota 2?
In Dota 2, every hero has a primary attribute. Getting 1 point for their main attribute will give them a bonus of +1 damage.
While not always the case, for the most part:
Strength heroes are mostly tanky and durable.
Agility heroes are known for their late-game damage-dealing potential and their dexterity.
Intelligence heroes often have a high capability to deal magic damage while possessing crowd-controlling and support-related skills.
Like I’ve already mentioned, this is not always the case, but it is true for the most part. For example: Strength and Agility category also has supports, nukers, and crowd-controlling heroes. There are late-game carries that fall under Strength and Intelligence and there are also a few durable heroes under Agility and Intelligence.
There are also Dota 2 heroes with no primary attribute, called universal heroes. I will discuss more about them at the end of this guide.
How do attributes work in Dota 2?
Strength: Each point in strength grants 22 maximum health, 0.1 health regen. If the hero’s primary attribute is STR, they also gain +1 damage for each point.
Agility: Each point in agility grants 1 attack speed and 0.167 armor. If the hero’s primary attribute is AGI, they also gain +1 damage for each point.
Intelligence: Each point in intelligence grants 12 maximum mana, 0.05 mana regen, and 0.1% magic resistance. Similarly, if the hero’s primary attribute is INT, they also gain +1 damage for each point.
What is a Universal Hero in Dota 2?
There are special kinds of heroes in Dota 2, called universal heroes. These Dota 2 heroes do not have a single primary attribute. There are all kinds of heroes under this category too, like nukers, supports, late-game carries, tanks, etc.
Since these heroes do not have a primary attribute, they gain 0.7 damage for 1 point of any attribute. For example: if a universal hero buys a circlet, which gives +2 points in all attributes (+2 str, +2 agi, and +2 int), universal heroes get (6*0.7) = 4.2 damage in total.
So, it is recommended to buy items that grant a lot of stats while playing Universal Heroes.
This brings us to the end of our Dota 2 attribute guide. There are two special heroes in Dota 2 who can change their primary attribute.
After the facets update, Morphling can change its primary attribute to either agility or strength during the picking phase.
When it comes to Viper, you can change his primary attribute from agility to universal with the level 25 talent tree.
